Is a Sobriety Coach Right for You?

For some people, working with a sobriety coach can drastically increase their chances of maintaining sobriety while improving their overall lifestyle. But not everyone should invest in a coach. Some people may be resistant to the idea of receiving outside help while others simply don’t have a current need. Before making that leap and investing time, money, and effort in working with a coach, you should be able to agree to the following:

You are committed to achieving sobriety, even if you are unclear about how.

You understand that change requires time, effort, and patience.

You are ready to identify and work on your shame and/or trauma.

You are willing to have an open mind about concepts you have never tried before.

You recognize a need for support.

You are eager to take responsibility for your life.

You want help to find confidence, self-esteem, peace, and a purpose.

You recognize your habits, actions, and limiting beliefs are keeping you from achieving the life you were meant to live.

Why Work with Me

Jeanna Fox Midlife Crisis Coach

I know what it feels like to be lost in the midst of alcohol addiction. In fact, a combination of midlife changes, poor decision making, and alcohol abuse turned my world upside down. On top of that, the suicide of my 23-year-old son resulted in more pain than anyone should ever have to endure.

His death also resulted in a not so immediate but massive shift in the way I dealt with my life. I woke up one morning, hungover but certain about one thing. I had to make a change.

I had to!

There was no question about it. Just the certain belief that I had to.

Within an hour of my waking on September 2, 2018, I found myself sitting in the parking lot at a 12-step program. I was several hours early for the meeting, but I had to change, so I waited.

If you are familiar with 12-step programs, you will know that much of it is based on prayer, forgiveness, belief, and other “woo woo” concepts. One sure way to succeed in a 12-step program is simply to believe and work the program.

As a skeptic of the “woo woo” involved in the process—I had a huge “God” problem—I knew I needed scientific proof that the right mindset could produce desired results.

That Proof Came in Two Forms.

First, I began studying everything I could about Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), Neuroplasticity, Law of Attraction, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), spirituality, and anything else that might improve my mental health. I understood that believing could make a difference, but in order to believe, I needed to find evidence.

I also needed to see my own results. This came in small wins that overtime accumulated in a complete shift in my perspective.

Slowly but surely, belief won, and now skepticism is a thing of the past.

I saw my experiences with early childhood trauma, alcoholism, the loss of my son, and the complete destruction of my life as a gift given to me so that I could make a difference in other people’s lives. It was my responsibility to share that gift.

My approach to transformation involves three phases.

  1. Understand the Addiction and childhood trauma connection.
  2. Remove the Shame.
  3. Take action.

My belief is that within each of us exists a REBEL waiting to be freed. The REBEL components include:

Rebel from limiting beliefs.

Educate yourself.

Believe in the possibilities.

Elevate your self-awareness.

Leverage your spirituality.
